So long, Bob Moog

Robert Moog, one of the great pioneers of electronic music synthesis, passed away yesterday. I never got to meet him, but I had the great privilege of spending some time in his private studio one afternoon in 1974. I was a disaffected 15-year-old high school student in Ithaca, NY, interested in nothing but music. A teacher arranged the opportunity to go to Moog’s studio in Trumansburg for an afternoon. I was given several blissful, unsupervised hours with a seemingly unlimited supply of patch cables and synthesizer modules—a very happy interval in a sullen time of my life.
