If you’ve ever been here before, you may notice that everything has apparently changed.

I am now using TextPattern as my weblog software. This is my third blog migration: first there was Radio Userland, then MovableType. Both had their good and bad points. I moved again mainly because I like TextPattern (and PHP) a lot, but also because the version of MT I was using was vulnerable to certain forms of hacking, such as relaying spam. This prevented some features (like commenting) from working properly, situated as I am on a server run by conscientious and security-minded people.

I decided not to move my old entries into this new blog. Rather, I have left them all as they were, so as not to break any links. This is not an ideal solution, as it doesn’t allow one to search across the entire site in a convenient way, and leaves the older entries with an appearance that doesn’t match newer entries, but besides avoiding link rot, it had the advantage of being easy. The archives of old entries are accessible through links on the sidebar. Note that there is, and will be, no way to leave any new comments on any of these entries.

Geek note: I have taken steps via some mod_rewrite trickery to ensure that the existing feed URLs will continue to work as before. If your news reader has problems with that, please let me know through the Contact page.
